UK/US TEAM
UK Project Coordinators:
Maggy Keet
Maggy started The Amai Athanzi Project back in December 2006 while she was in Malawi working on a school building project. She was amazed by many things about Chisala, but was really taken with the community’s commitment to developing the village and the surrounding area. When she learned of their great need for a maternity clinic – she knew immediately that she should help them to raise the funds. Maggy is currently studying at The School of Oriental and African Studies in London for a Masters Degree in Globalisation and Development. She lives in Farnborough, England with her husband, Andy.
Emily Kerr-Muir

Since graduating, and in between various temp jobs and living on a farm in Oxfordshire, Emily has spent most of the last year working for a UK charity that supports children, teens and families in the UK living with or closely affected by HIV/AIDS. But it was in between jobs that Maggy first told Emily about her plan to return to Malawi and set up the maternity clinic in Chisala. When Maggy asked if she'd like to get involved with the project, she immediately said yes. This idea has now become a reality and one which she saw on their brief research trip to Malawi this summer. Talking with the nurses and hearing first hand from the community why there is such a need for this clinic really hit home for her. She says, "So now it's down to us to raise the funds & I can't wait to get back there."
US Web Administrators:
James & Amber Bracegirdle

Amber and James live and work in New Jersey. When they heard about the project, they wanted to help in any way they could, so we set these self-proclaimed geeks straight to the website design. They enjoy traveling, shiny computer type things, and cooking for their blog, Bluebonnets & Brownies.
MALAWI TEAM
Malawi Project Manager: Douglas Gondwe

It’s probably best that Douglas isn’t writing this himself because he is far too humble. Douglas
is a lifelong citizen of Chisala and a highly respected member of the community. Aside from having the best skills for bringing people together and resolving issues, he has worked tirelessly on every development project this community has seen. He is always the first one on site every day and the last to leave. I wouldn’t do the project
without him leading the way!
The Village Headmen

The Maternity Clinic Committee
The Village Headmen and The Maternity Clinic Committee are all very excited about the project an eager to get things underway. They had already formed a committee and had been meeting before we arrived to do the research trip! These community leaders will be instrumental in helping us on-site and with resolving any issues we might face. They will also ensure that the bricks are made in time for the project’s start next August.
Please also note that there are women on the Maternity Clinic Committee
– they were not available for this photo.
